Master of Divinity Degree

Program Objective:  This is the standard degree for pastoral ministry and offers a thorough background in ministry. It is a practitioner degree and is therefore more structured than our other programs. Its curriculum seeks to utilize the framework enunciated for this degree by the Association of Theological Schools (www.ats.edu).

Program Overview:  The program consists of 90 credits: 82 core requirement credits, which include a unit of clinical pastoral education (400 hours), and nine months of ministerial experience, and 8 electives.  Its curriculum provides for the following specific areas of competency:  Sacred Scripture, History of Christianity, Systematic Theology, Ethics and Morality, Spirituality, Ministerial Praxis. This program is more disciplined, requiring courses to be taken in all of the above categories, however, it offers flexibility in the choice of courses within each category of study.

Prior Learning and Life Experience Credit:  It is possible to be awarded prior learning and/or life experience for up to 45 of the 90 required credits.  Forty-five credits must be earned through Global Ministries University. The assessment for the M. Div. Degree program looks at the candidate’s prior learning and life experience through the specific lenses of those areas of the curriculum. Credits are awarded at the discretion of the dean of program and dean may require documentation of the prior learning and life experience submitted.

Eligibility: A bachelor degree is required for acceptance into program.
