MASTER OF THEOLOGY DEGREE IN PEACE STUDIES 

Global Ministries University offers a Master of Theology Degree in Peace Studies completely online that can be custom desiged.  This Master of Theology Degree Program invites students to explore all aspects of peace from the perspective of different cultures. Students wishing to receive a Master of Theology Degree in Peace Studies will explore nonviolence according to various religious philosophies, ethics of war and peace in religion, negotiation and mediaton for religious leaders, and religious fundamentals of peace building.  

Following is a suggested curriculum for those pursuing a Master of Theology Degree in Peace Studies: 

Possible course of study for the Peace Studies theme:
TH702 Nonviolence: Spirituality, Theory, & Practice
The theory and practice of nonviolence according to various religious philosophies.

TH701 Religious Fundamentals of Peace Building  An introduction to peace studies surveying theory and philosophy of world religious leaders.

TH703 Making Global Peace: Negotiation and Mediation for Religious  Leaders  A survey of theory and practice in negotiation and mediation for religious leaders working for peace.

TH648 Globalization and the Meaning of Islam  This course will address the struggle within Islam and  the  issues related to the assumed Clash of civilizations. The possibility of a theoretical framework for better alternatives to the “us versus them” paradigm will also be discussed.

TH705 Education for Social Transformation  This course will help participants develop an understanding of the main roots of violence and culminate in a student designed program to shift knowledge, attitudes and behaviors towards a culture of peace.

TH704 Gender and Peace Building  Designed to provide theoretical and practical experiences in the importance of incorporating the gender dimension in peace processes

TH525 Ethics of War and Peace in Religion   This course provides basic information on ethics of war in the major religions of the world as well as secular points of view. It introduces the student to the basic history and terminology of ethics of war. The Abrahamic traditions along with secular views constitute the main focus of the course. Three of five sections and papers will be based on these views of war and peace. The fourth reading and paper will cover South and East Asian religious ethics of war. The final reading and paper will be on comparative ethics in the treatment of religious ethics of war and peace.

TH512 A Theology of Interfaith Dialogue  This course looks at common ground for interfaith dialogue, directs the many salvations to one world, uses eco-human well-being as a criterion for religious truth and includes practical suggestions and examples of a globally responsible dialogue.

Eligibility
All students who are accepted into the Master of Theology Degree Completion Program must hold a bachelor's degree.

Credits Required
The Master of Theology Degree Completion Program requires 36 credits.

Prior Learning and Life Experience Allowance
Prior Learning Allowance
A maximum of 18 credits for prior learning experience.
Prior Life Experience Allowance
A maximum of 9 credits may be awarded for life experience.
A combined total of up to 18 of the required 36 credits may be awarded for prior learning and life experience.

Credit Earned Through Global Ministries University
Students must earn 18 credits through Global Ministries University.

Core Requirements:
TH799 Master of Theology Thesis
(6 credits) or Two Additional Courses
In lieu of a supervised internship, students will be required to demonstrate extensive research skills and will design a research project leading to a Master's Thesis.   This project will be interdisciplinary and focus on a core theme. There is also an option to waive the thesis by taking two additional courses.

Tuition: $7,000   Global Ministries University has an interest-free monthly payment plan
