CERTIFICATE IN CHURCH HISTORY
  
Global Ministries University offers a mini, undergraduate and graduate Church History Certificate. The Certificate in Church History  can be custom designed and earned completely online.  This outstanding certificate program is ideal for those who need specific ministry training and/or continuing education in a specific area of Church history.  

Mini-Certificate: The mini-certificate in Church History consists of two courses selected from the list below and a project or paper.  The cost of the mini-certificate program is $450, which can be paid in three monthly installments of $150, plus a $50 application fee.

Undergraduate: The undergraduate certificate in Church History  consists of four courses selected from the list below and a project or paper.  The cost of the graduate certificate program is $1,000, which can be paid in eight monthly installments of $125, plus a $100 application fee.  

Graduate: The graduate certificate in Church History consists of four courses selected from the list below and a project or paper.  The cost of the graduate certificate program is $1,400, which can be paid in eight monthly installments of $175, plus a $100 application fee.  


CERTIFICATE IN CHURCH HISTORY CURRICULUM

TH680 Early Church History
This course covers the period from the Pauline letters to the establishment of Christianity as the approved religion of the Roman Empire in the 4th century and includes the career of St. Augustine (354-430).

TH690 Medieval Church History
This course has the students studying the history of monasticism and its impact on the growth of Christianity during the barbarian invasions, the growth of the papacy after Gregory the Great and the use of Roman law to solidify Church order. Students will also study the writings of at least one medieval mystic or one medieval theologian.

TH695 Modern Church History
This course has students studying the Protestant Reformation and its impact on Christianity and the modern world. The course will review the modern ecumenical movement within Christianity and the impact of nonChristian religions upon the Christian faith.

TH511 History of God This course covers the evolution of monotheism within the Abraham faith traditions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. In addition to the theological perspective that led formulations of the divine nature and salvific history based upon revelation, the course also features philosophical perspectives on the nature of God within these traditions.

TH644 Holy Women In the Early Celtic Christian Tradition
The goals of this course are: to reflect on the myths and miracles of Celtic holy women whose strength and wisdom have been transmitted through the ages; to discover that springs and holy wells were associated with birthing and healing and the powerful Celtic feminine; to present women as equals and leaders in the Celtic tradition from the fifth through the eighth centuries; to reflect on Celtic holy women as mentors for spiritual seekers in the twenty-first century.


Project/Paper Student will submit a project or paper that is related to church history coursework and/or practical use of information acquired.  Subject matter of project or paper to be approved by GMU Dean of Continuing Education.

Students who later decide to pursue a degree program at Global Ministries University will be able to apply tuition and course work to the program: 
     Mini and Undergraduate certificate may be applied to Bachelor Degree Program
     Graduate certificate may be applied to Masters/Doctor Degree Programs
