ADMISSIONS/STUDY PROCESS
ADMISSIONS PROCEDURE Orientation - When you submit your application and application fee, the Admissions Associate will send you the information needed to begin your orientation.
Assessment of Prior Learning and Life Experience - Traditionally, college credits are earned in formal classrooms within the academic semester. However, Global Ministries University believes that extra-institutional learning and life experiences can also be valid for college credit. It is therefore possible to be awarded credit for relevant work duties, volunteer work, non-credit courses, and seminars. This process could reduce the length of time it will take to earn your degree.
The assessment form that is included in the orientation information sent to you serves as a guideline to assist you in the submission of possible prior learning and/or life experience that may be eligible for credit toward your degree program (excluding the doctoral programs, which do not allow credit for prior learning and life experience). Refer to specific program for number of credits that may be awarded.
Your completed assessment form is then submitted to Dean of program for evaluation and determination of how many credits will be awarded for your prior learning and life experience.
Learning Contract - After prior learning and life experience credit has been awarded, you will develop a learning contract, with the assistance of the dean/mentor of program, by selecting the courses that are to be taken. When your learning contract has been approved by you and the Dean of program, your orientation is completed and you will begin your first course.
METHOD OF STUDY
GMUClasslassroom.org, an Internet site, is used to obtain each syllabus, submit assignments, and receive graded papers. Additionally, student and instructor may also correspond via email and telephone.
Global Ministries University uses a self-directed method of study:
-
The syllabus includes assignments, course objectives, required text, instructor bio, and contact information.
-
Student completes the assignments, which are typically essay-type, one at a time and submits course work to instructor.
-
Instructor grades each assignment and offers constructive input.
-
Upon completion of all assignments, a final grade is given for the course.
-
The dean or mentor guides student through the program.
ADVANTAGES OF THE SELF-DIRECTED METHOD OF STUDY
Certainly there is value to a classroom environment, but the self-directed method also has its advantages:
-
Using essay-type assignments, you are empowered to express yourself and channel your learning process in a direction that will help you in your personal spiritual growth and ministry training.
-
Our grading procedure is based on how well you grasp the concepts of the assignments.
-
You are able to set your own pace, that is, fit the course work into your busy schedule or work full time to complete course work as soon as possible.
-
All course work can be completed when and wherever you choose: in your home, while traveling, evenings, weekends. And there are no registration dates, which means that you are able to begin earning your degree today!
